Heinrich Friedrich Füger

Heilbronn 1751 - 1818 Vienna

Lying young man

pen and brown ink, 14,2 x 17,4 cm

In 1774, Füger created five sketches for the first time, which were to serve as illustrations for Salomon Gessner's story "Der Erste Schiffer". These drawings were made in red chalk and are more picturesque. In 1796 Füger worked on this topic again, but now more graphically. The Albertina houses a series of seven drawings. The present drawing is the first draft of the elaborated drawing with the dreaming young man (Albertina, inv. 5255).
